NAIT classes to be held online for start of 2022 winter term

The health and safety of the NAIT community remain top priorities

As infection rates climb in Alberta in the wake of the Omicron variant, NAIT will continue to deliver all lecture and theory classes virtually until at least Feb. 25. Enhanced safety measures have been put in place for shops and labs that require in-person participation.

“Since the pandemic began, NAIT’s priority has been the health and safety of the campus community,” says President and CEO Laura Jo Gunter.

“Though there is much that is unknown about the Omicron variant, we do know it is highly contagious and less susceptible to vaccines. Until we know more, we will act with an abundance of caution and continue to follow the advice of public health experts to keep our campus safe.”

All students will hear from their school or program about updates and impacts to their scheduled on-campus learning.

The changes for winter term

Beginning with the 2022 winter term, NAIT students, staff and visitors to campus can expect the following:

  • safety measures will continue and in some cases be enhanced. These include the continued use of masks, as well as face shields or approved eye protection and physical distancing wherever possible
  • some programs may reduce class or cohort sizes
  • staff who do not need to be on campus will continue with work-from-home arrangements where possible

NAIT will reassess the impacts of the Omicron variant in the weeks to come.

“We must do all we can to protect one another.”

Risk of transmission of COVID-19 has remained low on NAIT’s campuses throughout the pandemic. The polytechnic will continue to take steps as needed to minimize this risk and to support a safe and healthy winter term.

“We must do all we can to protect one another,” says Gunter. “Leadership at NAIT will continue to monitor the situation, follow public health guidance, and act in such a way that best protects the campus community.”
